Under the Social Economic program, TISA, in partnership with Christian Aid Kenya, has been engaging the community in sensitizing them on the implications of the Kenya Tax Framework on MSMEs, women, and youth. The sensitization mapping from communities within Nairobi County, namely, Kibra, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Mathare, Kayole, and the environs.
Through these engagement meetings, TISA identified community influencers to continue the sensitization to build a movement of empowered citizens. As a result of the training sessions, the community influencers have been involved in the Nairobi County Annual Development Plan(CADP 2023/2024) in Starehe and Embakasi North Sub-Counties, where they called out the government officials for neglect and pure disregard of the rules of the Public Procurement Act, raising awareness in how Public Participation is conducted in Kenya and the gaps and challenges identified.
The community influencers have also been involved in awareness creation on pro-poor taxation through community radio engagements across Nairobi County. The influencers continued the sensitization by going to the following community radio stations, Ruben FM in Mukuru kwa Njenga, Pamoja FM in Kibra, Mtaani Radio in Dagoretti, Ghetto Radio in Imara Daima and Koch FM in Kariobangi. The engagement was able to reach over 1.8 million listeners around Nairobi County.
