Deputy Public Prosecutor Noordin Haji was nominated by President William Ruto to head the National Intelligence Services (NIS). The National Integrity Alliance through its red card campaign is objecting to his appointment due to the negligence and gross misconduct displayed by Mr. Haji.
During his period of service, Mr. Haji has had a remarkable pattern of withdrawing huge corruption cases involving influential political individuals. Some of those cases include former CEO NHIF, Geoffrey Mwangi and 17 others facing 1.1 billion corruption case, Deputy president Rigathi Gacagua and 9 others corruption case of 7.3 billion, Chairperson of Communications Authority of Kenya Wambui Mary’s tax evasion of 2.2 billion among many others. In addition, he has indicated that he was politically influenced in his decision making.
The National Integrity alliance is submitting a memorandum to the vetting committee in Parliament expressing the stipulated concerns. Moreover, if Mr. Haji goes through the filtering process the alliance is prepared to go to court and challenge the decision. Currently, the alliance has already filed a petition to remove the ODPP from office on the grounds of misconduct, incompetence and non-compliance to the Kenyan Constitution.
