CSOs under the Okoa Uchumi Coalition and Angaza Movement held a consultation meeting with the Kenya Kwanza team led by His Excellency William Ruto to discuss workable solutions to address Public Debt, Integrity, Transformative Leadership, Electoral and Economic Justice.
Ruto, in the breakfast meeting held on 21st June 2022 at Hermosa Garden Hotel, said the economy is not in a good place and needs to be sorted out against the background of debt and budget deficit. “It is not prudent to continue borrowing, we must slow down and eventually stop borrowing” added Ruto.
The Civil Society groups wanted the Kenya Kwanza Administration to address and put in place policies around public debt, challenges faced by women in AGPO and a framework for engagement to establish a communication link for continuous and further engagement pre and post elections.
Ruto emphasized on the need for Civil society to continue holding the government accountable, speak authoritatively and ensure accountability is not compromised by working as partners not friends of the government.
